[As Eddie steadily looks more stunned, Jinu's pleased grin continues to grow. He'd already listened through the album himself ā mostly to make sure the whole thing worked and he wasn't about to cut the guy's happiness short ā but he'll admit there are some songs that he wouldn't mind revisiting.]
Scavenging out beyond the anchor points.
It gets crazy out there, but there are some great finds if you're willing to deal with shifting landscapes and raiders.
[ He echoes the number in a soft, awed voice, like itās some far off inconceivable date and not a mere five years away from where he stands in the timeline. Not that heāll live to see it, but he isnāt aware of that event just yet so weāll just let him be happy with the Metallica music he wouldnāt get to hear otherwise. At least Jinu found this and vetted it first as opposed to their 2003 releaseā¦Eddie would have a true and proper meltdown.
Eddie isnāt exactly wiling to deal with shifting landscapes or raiders, but itās clear that he appreciates someone who is. He turns to Jinu with wide eyes, like he's just seen the face of god in this music and it looks kind of like Kirk Hammett. ]
[Seen: someone who has never been called a hero in his life, even jokingly. He knows it's just a bit of gratitude, which is also just as weird and foreign to him, so he waves it off with a scoff and an amused smile.]
Come on. Who else was I going to give it to?
If I kept it, my motel neighbors would have had us kicked out. [He motions to the tape deck.] Ah, there's a track in here I really like, though ā 'Nothing Else Matters', on the B Side? It's surprisingly sentimental for a band like this.
[He listened to the song... like twenty times on his tape player...
[ The thing is, Eddie isnāt totally joking. Heās maybe overreacting just a little, but when doesnāt he? When youāre Eddie Munson, every happening, no matter how minor, is made as huge and bombastic as possible. He does view Jinu with genuine admiration for braving the world beyond the anchor points and bringing this tape all the way back to him. ]
Hey, thereās gotta be at least one other metalhead in Panorama, dude. One even more charismatic and charming and more worthy of 1991 Metallica. But uh, wildly unlikely, I know.
[ He leans into Jinuās personal bubble briefly, grinning, then pulls back again. He may be right, but heās the only metalhead who has made it expressly known, soā¦he wins!
Then he tips his head, an almost knowing smile on his face. He obviously hasnāt listened to the tape beyond this one song yet, but he recognizes the words of a man who has clearly been playing a single song half to death. He knows what thatās like. Heās worn entire tapes out listening to a single track in the past, and he knows heād be kicked out of every motel room heās taken up residence in if he hadnāt opted to live out of his van instead. ]
Uh huh. And just how many times did you listen to it?
[He's mostly teasing, because he's pretty sure there's gotta be a couple of people like Eddie in the whole of Panorama; loud, bombastic rock music has its perks! He couldn't deny the energy could be just as infectious as pop, if it's in the right hands...
Uuuugh. Speaking of liking a little rock...
He winces, knowing full well a lie would be easily seen through.]
... Double digits. It would be a nice song to learn on a guitar, once I can afford one.
[ Eddie can sense heās being teased and sticks his tongue out in a positively fantastic show of maturity. Metalheads are kind of a dime a dozen, itās true, even if small town Indiana tries so desperately to quash them. But Eddie has yet to find any here, and for all he knows, theyāre a dying breed. ]
I knew it.
[ He practically cackles with glee knowing that Jinu has been gotten by the power of rock. Sure, he may be more of a pop guy, but itās nice to know that he has some expanded taste in there somewhere. ]
Iām sure Iāll listen to it twice as many times. But, uh, that acoustic you were playing at the rave wasnāt yours?

Youāre my hero, dude.

The power of rock prevails.
But ah-]
No, it belonged to one of the other people working there.
I'll try to budget for one, though. Someday. My roommate knows how to play.
